Day 3: The Last Movie I Saw in Theaters

"Fee-fi-fo-fum.  Ask not whence the thunder comes.  For between heaven and Earth is a perilous place. Home to a fearsome and giant race."

A verse from the movie Jack the Giant Slayer.  This was the last movie I saw with my husband and the kids over the weekend.  The story was based on the fairy tale "Jack and the Beanstalk".

The story line was predictable, but the digital effects was good.  It was a fun movie in general and we all enjoyed watching the giants, except for my little girl who was a bit grossed out, especially during the scene where Ewan McGregor was about to be baked. :)

My Favorite Movie Quotes

One of the things I love most is watching movies!  I could probably stay in the house all day, propped up on the couch, munching on chips just watching old movies!  It could be any genre, but what tops my list would be romantic films.  I don't know, I guess I'm just a sucker for love and even if sometimes what happens in movies can never happen in reality, doesn't matter.  I will always be a fan of love and all it's splendor!

Here are some of my favorite quotes from romantic movies that I've watched.

"The best love is the kind that awakens the soul and makes us reach for more; that plants a fire in our hearts and brings peace to our minds. That's what you've given me and that's what I hope to give to you forever."

“I finally understood what true love meant...love meant that you care for another person's happiness more than your own, no matter how painful the choices you face might be.”

"I would rather have had one breath of her hair, one kiss from her mouth, one touch of her hand, than eternity without it."

"I would rather fight with you than make love to anyone else."

"I vow no matter what challenges might carry us apart that we will always find a way back to each other."

And lastly, from the movie P.S. I love you.  This was the letter written by Gerry played Gerald Butler to Holly played by Hillary Swank.  I was crying buckets watching this movie.

"Dear Holly, I don't have much time. I don't mean literally. I mean, you're out buying ice cream and you'll be home soon. But I have a feeling this is the last letter, because there is only one thing left to tell you. It isn't to go down memory lane or make you buy a lamp. You can take care of yourself without any help from me. It's to tell you how much you move me, how you changed me. You made me a man by loving me, Holly. And for that, I am eternally grateful... literally. If you can promise me anything, promise me that whenever you're sad, or unsure, or you lose complete faith, that you'll try to see yourself through my eyes. Thank you for the honor of being my wife. I'm a man with no regrets. How lucky am I? You made my life, Holly. But I'm just one chapter in yours. There'll be more. I promise. So here it comes, the big one. Don't be afraid to fall in love again. Watch out for that signal, when life as you know it ends. P.S. I will always love you."

The Rabbit Hole - Movie

The Rabbit Hole is a film about a married couple who lost their 4 year old son when he was hit by  a car just outside their house. I was expecting it to be a tear jerker, but surprisingly the movie didn't make me cry.  It was actually a sad movie if I may say.  This was originally a play which was adapted into a film.  The movie takes you into the life of the characters and the different ways they cope up with grief, and how they found comfort at the end.

Losing a child is unimaginable, that is every parents worst nightmare. In this movie instead of the couple finding comfort in each other because they lost a son, they were sadly drifting apart.  While the father was trying to re-live the memories of his son, the mother was slowly erasing the memory of the little boy from their home, by removing things that would remind her of him.  She was starting to be cold and distant towards his husband, which I know in reality happens to some couple dealing with the same tragedy.  But at the end they both realized that  they have to move on with their lives, and although things were not the same, they had to try and act normal for the sake of their friends and family, and find comfort in each other.

Each person has a unique way of coping with grief. I guess you are entitled to grieve on your own for some time.  But I think that there comes a point where acceptance should come in, and that life has to go on for everyone.  Find comfort in the thought that whatever it is in life you are going through, you are never alone.

The Lost Valentine - Movie

Recently watched The Lost Valentine on dvd.  The movie was based on a novel by James Michael Pratt. First 5 minutes into the movie, I was already crying.  It was a scene where Caroline was saying goodbye to her husband and how I hate goodbyes.

The story centered on Caroline Thomas, who on February 14, 1944 said goodbye to her husband as he was sent off to war.  And on every Valentine's Day for the next 66 years she went to that train station waiting for her beloved husband to come back.

Then came Jennifer Love Hewitt, a reporter who was looking for a story about true love, but doubts at first if it does exist, was assigned to do the story of Caroline Thomas and her husband.  Now, as Caroline was reliving the memory of her husband by telling their love story, Susan (the reporter) was having issues with her own love life as well.  Her photographer boyfriend proposed to her, bur she declined saying she was not yet ready to commit into something serious.  And in the picture was Caroline's grandson Lucas, who at first got annoyed at Susan but as they started spending time together started to have feelings for her.

So the story continued with the quest of looking for her husband who they learned was rescued by "tribeman" in an island somewhere in the Pacific.  And this island just happened to be the Philippines, and there was even a scene where there were Filipino actors and you could hear them speaking in Tagalog. Anyway, they found out that Neil Thomas, (the husband) later died in action.  They asked the help of a Filipino guerrilla who fought with the American during the war to locate the remains of Neil and bring it back to the US. The ending brought them back to the train station where finally Caroline's long wait for her husband came to an end as he eventually was brought home, a hero.

This is a real tear jerker.  The plot was simple yet love stories always brings out good feelings after you watch them.  It proves that love does really stand the test of time, and it shows how a person can stay committed and true to the person she loves. It's a beautiful reminder that True Love does exist. Happy Hearts Day everyone!!

PS:  Did I mention that the grandson, Lucas (Sean Faris) is a total hunk? LOL...

Red Mask

Red Mask is a short film which stars Elmo Magalona and Julieanne.  It was a 3 part film and the last episode aired last Sunday.  I enjoyed watching because it reminded me of my teenage life where we had crushes, and our first puppy love.  But those were carefree times and nothing really serious was going on because all I had in mind was to have fun in a responsible way and enjoy being a teenager.  I am proud to say that I never gave my parents a headache during my teens.

Despicable Me - Movie Date

For days, my husband has been telling me that the new animated movie, Despicable Me is a must-see and that surely our son Andre would enjoy the movie.  I was a bit hesitant because the character of the movie was kind of mean-looking, of course the title would speak for itself. Despicable has a negative connotation right?  But anyways, after days of prodding I finally gave in, and so on a Sunday afternoon we all went to SM to watch the movie in 3D, because we wanted to see if Andre would enjoy  a different kind of movie experience.

It was good to know that the ticket came with a freebie, a choice between a hot-dog sandwich and a bucket of popcorn.  That was a good thing because all I had to do was buy ourselves drinks.  That day, I was craving for a banana shake, so i went to grab one at Thirsty, and then bought drinks at the refreshment counter for my boys.  While paying for the drinks, I placed my banana shake on the counter, and totally forgot about it until halfway during the movie.  Explains why I felt as if I was missing something... too bad, the cup was still half full when I left it.   Anyways, the movie was really not that bad, I must admit I had fun, especially looking at all those tiny yellow creatures.  Where they robots?  I really don't know.  But Andre had a blast as well.  He was really amazed with the 3d effects, and would reach out his hand whenever things seemed to come out of the screen.  What I would not forget was when he said, "Mommy, these are cool glasses, I want one for home when Andre watch TV".  I was quoting my son, and what he means was that he wanted 3d glasses for himself when he watches TV at home.  So he was a bit sad when we had to return the glasses after the movie.

The movie was okay for me.  The story was really funny and heart warming.  It is a proof that there is a good side hidden within each of us.  We just need to let that good side come out of its shell and show itself to the world.  What made the movie worth it for me, was to see the joy in my little boy's face and hear him laugh.  Andre had a really good time and for me that was what matters.
